Step 2 Section 5 Error Your return rejected because of the payment date you entered. When a return is filed after the April due date, the e-file system will not accept a payment effective date earlier than the e-file date. If a return is filed before the April due date, the e-file system will not accept a payment date which is more than 5 days prior to the date you are e-filing the return. To correct the error login to your account and go to Step 2 Section 5C, ‘Electronic Withdrawal of Tax Due’ and change your entry for ‘Date to make withdrawal’ to an acceptable date. After correcting the error, remember to put the current date in the Step 2, Section 4, ‘Today’s Date.’ The current date is the day you intend to resubmit (e-file) the return.
